Low Cholesterol Diet - Decrease Risk of Heart Diseases

What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a fatty wax lipid that can be found in the cell membranes of humans and animals.

Cholesterol is a tricky little devil, because if it gets out of hand you could have a serious health risk, including heart attack and other potentially fatal conditions. That is why it is so important to have a low cholesterol diet, because it reduces your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. High cholesterol is something you need to avoid. It can cause many conditions including heart disease.

By having a low cholesterol diet, you are less likely to contact heart disease than someone who eats a high cholesterol diet.Well, whether or not you have high cholesterol, eating too many high cholesterol foods will give you high cholesterol. So, manage your diet and eat right, and remember that a low cholesterol diet is important for your health.

Causes, Symptoms of High Cholesterol

Nobody wants High cholesterol. When you hear the dreaded words from your doctor saying you have high cholesterol, you are probably thinking something along the lines of – “Now. I will never be able to eat my favorite food again!” But do not worry, there are many low cholesterol diets that can be good for you and taste well all at the same time. First let’s look at the causes of high cholesterol. In most cases, weight plays a large role in high cholesterol because of the food you eat and the amount of food you eat.

Sometimes it can be as simple as losing a few pounds to lower your cholesterol levels, but other times you simply can do nothing. You lose weight but your cholesterol levels are still the same. This can be an example of hereditary cholesterol, which means your high cholesterol levels could be the result of one of your family members having high cholesterol. A low cholesterol diet will help to keep your cholesterol levels down but it will be harder because it is something in your genes that makes your cholesterol high. Also stress can raise your cholesterol so practicing stress relief is a good idea, and exercise may be the perfect option for you, exercise can both decrease your stress and your cholesterol levels all at the same time.

Symptoms of high cholesterol can be, fatigue, depression and other emotional conditions. A good suggestion when starting a low cholesterol diet would be to avoid fatty, unhealthy foods, like french fries, and other fast foods that are high in cholesterol. Junk food is never good, so when you are trying to stay on a low cholesterol diet, try to avoid these types of foods at all costs. Yes I know you love those kind of foods, but it is not the end of great tasting foods for you yet. Today there are many substitutes for junk foods that can be made right at home with ingredients that will not raise your cholesterol levels.

It is good to go to your local book store and find a low cholesterol diet cookbook, because a lot of the time you can find delicious recipes that are much lower in cholesterol than other foods. For example if you get hungry for french fries while on a low cholesterol diet, consider this – most low cholesterol cookbooks will have a recipe for oven fries. These are a delicious substitute for regular french fries and they taste great! Of course if you cannot find this recipe feel free to go online and find low cholesterol recipes for you and your family to enjoy.

I am following a low cholesterol diet and really love avocadas, but my food list says I can't eat them. Are they really that bad for people with high cholesterol? I don't mind giving up the meat and sugar, but not the avocados.

The Best Low Cholesterol Diet Plan

The Best Low Cholesterol Diet Plan

If you want to lower your cholesterol levels, following an ideal diet may be able to help you a lot. It has been known for a long time now that the food a person eats or is accustomed to eating daily can have a direct relation in the body’s cholesterol levels.

And it is important for people to lower their cholesterol levels because cholesterol has been associated with the development of coronary heart disease. The higher the level of blood cholesterol levels in an individual, the more likely it is that he will be developing heart disease later on. Aside from that high cholesterol levels can also put a person at risk of suffering from a stroke or a heart attack.

Aside from using drugs to lower cholesterol levels, following a low cholesterol diet is the next best thing to keep your cholesterol levels down. Eating more vegetables, soy products and other low cholesterol foods can be just as effective at reducing blood cholesterol as medication. A study has been able to show that a vegetarian diet can lower cholesterol by as much as one-third in just a month.

The best cholesterol-lowering diet that you can follow usually includes a hearty serving of vegetables such as broccoli and red peppers. Soymilk and soy sausages, oat bran cereal and bread as well as plenty of fruits and nuts make up a complete low cholesterol diet. Soy protein, nuts, and fiber rich food such as oats and barley can effectively cut cholesterol levels by up to seven percent.

A low cholesterol diet also requires you to minimize your intake of saturated fat by seven percent and other fat substances by 25-35 percent. It has been discovered that the best diet for avoiding coronary heart disease includes consuming non-hydrogenated (unprocessed) fats rather than the hydrogenated variety. Increased consumption of omega-3 fats from fish, fish oil or plant sources such as flaxseeds is the suggested fat intake in a low cholesterol diet. With a low cholesterol diet, one should also limit daily sodium intake somewhere in the level of 2400 milligrams daily.

A typical day on the low cholesterol diet would include a hearty breakfast of soymilk, oat bran cereal with chopped fruit and almonds, oatmeal bread, vegetable-based margarine and jam. A typical low cholesterol lunch would comprise of soy cold cuts, oat bran bread, bean soup and a dessert of fruit. For dinner, stir-fry vegetables, tofu, fruit and almonds would be the usual low cholesterol diet fare. Following this type of low cholesterol diet religiously for long periods, it is possible for one’s cholesterol level to drop by as much as 29 percent in just a month.

Baby Care: Choose the Best Option That Suits Your Child the Best

We have some alternative solutions for this. Spend some time to choose the best option that suits your child the best.

The first option is hiring a sitter or nanny to take care of your child but this has a lot of advantages. Your child will be home safe and for more detail go to: www.baby-care-book.com. Secure with the nanny and will be taken full attention by her. If your child falls ill, nanny will take care of your child and you don’t need to spend your time by transporting your child back and forth and also from work. There is a disadvantage in this option, if the nanny wants go on a vacation or if she feels sick, you don’t have a backup. Also spend as much time as possible with your child in free time. This is because, your child spends a lot of time with your nanny and there is a tendency to develop a strong bond with your nanny. The statistics shows that more than one mother are not comfortable with her baby as the baby is comfortable with the nanny.

The second option is leaving your child in a small day care, which means you will find someone who will take care of your child with her children. There is a possibility that there will be her children or even others. This is one of the good options if you want your child to be in a home atmosphere. This situation happens if you cannot afford for a full time nanny. This option also has the same kind of disadvantage if the nanny feels sick or goes for a vacation.

The third option is that taking your child to a professional day care center. These kind of professional day care centers are affordable and we don’t need to care whether the caretaker feels sick or going on a vacation. For more help visit to: www.create-super-baby.com. Your child will also learn a lot in that day care center as it grows older. Be prepared both of you as your child can get affected by the germs in that day care center. In most states, there must be one caretaker for eight babies. This is the other disadvantage taking care of eight babies by one caretaker. So, while you take your child to a day care center make sure that the caretaker is not attending more than five children.

The most important decisions you’ll make is choosing the appropriate child care center. Even after you choose the day care center, make sure your child gets the best care in the day care center you choose. Go to the day care center in odd times to check what’s going on and Make sure you’re satisfied.

When Choosing Low Cholesterol Diet

Posted by: admin | Comments (18)
When Choosing Low Cholesterol Diet

The subject of diet is much discussed one of late. Its importance in relation to one’s perfect health is understood better now by the health-conscious people. A good diet can build your life. A bad diet though can break it.

Low cholesterol diet is one of the favorite subjects of the physicians to discuss with their patients.

When your physician talks about the diet, in relation to the levels of cholesterol and gives you long lectures on the benefits of the physical exercises, you wonder whether he is your physician or the physical instructor.

The pet advice of the physician would be to reduce the fat content in your diet. Animal fat, meat and dairy products are the number one culprits to increase the level of your blood cholesterol. Taking control of your diet is one of the easiest methods to tackle the levels of the cholesterol, but it is unnecessarily being made complicated by you. Such an easy option messed up, for lack of self-control. Your taste buds do most of the damage.

Low cholesterol diet is an easy option. Hitherto, you were not properly aware of it. Once you begin with this diet discipline, you will rather like it. You may even wonder why such a lifestyle was not adopted by you earlier. Your daily menu could be somewhat like this: One cup of skim milk every day. As for vegetables, take up to five helpings per day. You need to take brown bread, sprouted grains and fresh beans. It is better if the non-vegetarian food is avoided altogether because most of them contain high cholesterol agents. Also, choose liquid vegetable oils like sesame, sunflower and olive. Make salad eating a habit. Let your breakfast be ruled by vegetables and fruits.

The paths to lower cholesterol are many, and you need to choose your own path. Your intelligent physician may reel out many types of information on the diet pattern, only you need to choose, which is the best option for you. The educative information and literature available on the subject of cholesterol is plenty. You need to read and judge which one is the best option for you.

So, it is an interesting change of course in your life as for the diet. Your effort to lower the cholesterol level will also bring some other ancillary benefits to improve your overall physic.

The Zone Diet - What is it and Can it Help Me

The Zone Diet works on the principle that 100,000 years ago, we were meat eaters, and our metabolism is designed to handle the demands of a meat-based diet.

Madonna, Demi Moore, and Jennifer Aniston swear by the results of the Zone Diet, which was created by Barry Sears, PhD.  The Zone Diet contains 40% carbohydrate, 30% protein, and 30% fat and is known as the 40-30-30 plan.

As the food industry evolved, more carbohydrates have been introduced into our daily diet, thus causing an imbalance in our metabolism to burn fat.  The reason for our extra weight can also be attributed to the many grains and starches in our diet (pasta, rice, breads, and potatoes).  The Zone Diet’s approach calls for a return to the diets of our ancestors where meat, fruits, and vegetables are the main dietary foods.

The Zone Diet suggests that you need the right ratio of carbohydrates to proteins and fats in order to control the insulin in the bloodstream.  Too much of the hormone (insulin) can increase fat storage and inflammation in the body (conditions that are associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes and heart disease).  Sears asserts that by using the Zone Diet, you are actually optimizing the body’s metabolic function.  Through the regulation of blood sugar, you allow your body to burn excess body fat.

Although you are not prohibited from any particular food group, it is best to avoid food with high fat and carbohydrates such as grains, starches, and pastas.  The ideal sources of carbs are fruits and vegetables and for monounsaturated fats olive oil, almonds, and avocados are recommended.  The Zone Diet claims to use food as a drug for overall good health, weight loss and prevention or management of heart disease and diabetes.

Sears says that you can test to see whether you are ‘hormonally’ correct by eating following the Zone diet and see how you feel four hours later.  To simplify the Zone Diet, fill one-third of a plate with low-fat protein, and then two-thirds with fruits and vegetables.

Celebrities and some health experts say that the Zone’s recommendations do not stray far from the USDA’s (United States Dietary Association) dietary guidelines and therefore are advocates of the Zone Diet.  Others argue that the Zone Diet has flawed ratios but Sears argues that the Zone diet is a low-glycemic-load diet that has adequate protein.  .

A critic of the Zone diet such as the AHA (American Heart Association) classifies the Zone Diet as high protein and does not recommend the Zone Diet for weight loss.  They contend that the Zone Diet has not been proven effective in the long term for weight loss.  The AHA issued an official recommendation warning against diets like the Zone Diet.  They believe that the Zone Diet is hazardous as it restricts the intake of essential vitamins and minerals present in certain foods.  The AHA also contends that the protein ratio in the Zone diet is too high even if the minimal fat ratio is good.  Robert H. Ecker M.D of the A.H.A. finds the Zone Diet’s theory on insulin flawed and argues that there is no scientific proof that the hormone insulin plays a big role in weight regulation.

What are the aspects of child rearing that are most important to the modern parents of today? When we look at this issue, we can only symphatise with the modern parents of today because most of them are working or running some full time jobs. There is so little time to spend with the children and babies, if both parents are working , and where the mother is not working, taking care of a baby is a demanding full time job itself that keeps the mother busy at all times. Indeed, taking care of a baby is a 24 hour job, because even a baby can wake up at any time during the night when the parents are trying to catch up on sleep, and so the parents are basically on call the entire day and night.

Organic baby products do not cost much. In fact, they may be actually cheaper – some won’t even cost anything at all since these organic ingredients are probably just growing out in their backyard. Parents just need to invest in time and effort. For example, organic nappies are not just good for baby’s skin but they are way cheaper than using disposable ones. Organic skin care products meant for babies are easily made and some even last up to many months of use – truly a money-saver.

Giving birth to a child is sometimes really amazing and it is safe when the baby is in its mother’s womb. From the instant the baby emerges from the cocoon, you need to pay special attention and there is plenty of it in newborn baby care about “how to take care of newborn baby”. Know well what will be the newborn baby needs, except for the love that you offer. You need a good knowledge in taking care of the baby connected with food, sleep and skin. It’s sometimes excruciating that you can’t handle it to your wishes since the skin, eyes, bottom and other features are so delicate. There are some common problems with skin conditions like baby gerbils, baby acne, cradle caps and heat rash with sunburn common with newborns of any country.

Skin care is the foremost factor in spite of its adaptability to the new environment. Skin is so red that it offers irritation and infection to every touch. So, it’s best to wash cloths with special detergents. Baby skin loses moisture quickly and it needs time to absorb and retain moisture to its need. So, keeping your child with cold or warm perfume baths daily is not suggestive but may be on alternative days suiting other conditions. New born baby care is so gentle that it needs special treatment. It’s best for protecting the baby from bacterial infection by using homemade baby wipes and diaper to cleaning your little ones.

Bath time can be a great way for you to relax and spend some time with your little one. Just use caution when choosing natural baby care products. Even though a product might advertise itself as all natural, you should read the fine print with care. Make sure that all the ingredients are all truly natural and there are no chemical additives.

Products such as baby shampoo aren’t essential for keeping your baby clean. You can simply use soap and water at bath time to wash your baby’s hair. While some parents choose to give their baby a bath in a sink or bucket, using a proper baby bathtub will help make bath time easier and more fun.

Weight Loss Diet Fad’s

Weight Loss Diet Fad\'s

Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Chances are you have experienced the frustrations of dieting at least once in your life, if you have problems with your weight. Close to a hundred million Americans go on a weight loss diet in any given year and up to ninety-five percent of them regain the weight they lose within five years. Worse, a third will gain back more weight than they lost, in danger of “yo-yoing” from one popular diet to another. The conventional approach to weight problems, focusing on fad weight loss diets or weight loss drugs, may leave you with just as much weight and the additional burden of ill health.

Today, an estimated sixty-five percent of all American adults are obese or overweight. Our culture obsesses about staying thin even as we grow fatter, but this isn’t about appearances. Obesity is known to be a precursor to many debilitating health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and gallbladder disease. Obesity contributes to as many as 375,000 deaths every year. In addition, the public health costs for obesity are staggering. According to researchers at Harvard University, obesity is a factor in 19% of all cases of heart disease with annual health costs estimated at 30 billion dollars; it’s also a factor in 57% of diabetes cases, with health costs of $9 billion per year.

Set Realistic Goals:

No doubt you have fallen for one or more of the weight loss diet schemes over the years, promising quick and painless weight loss. Many of these quick weight loss diet programs undermine your health, cause physical discomfort, flatulence, and ultimately lead to disappointment when you start regaining weight, shortly after losing it. Fad or quick weight loss diet programs generally overstress one type of food. They contravene the fundamental principle of good nutrition – to remain healthy one must consume a balanced diet, which includes a variety of foods. Safe, healthy, and permanent weight reduction is what’s truly lost among the thousands of popular diet schemes.

Some of the weight loss diet schemes reign supreme briefly, only to fade out. While some wane from popularity due to being unproductive or unsafe, some simply lose the public’s curiosity. Examples of such fad diets include the South Beach Diet, Atkins diet, the Grapefruit diet, Cabbage Soup diet, the Rotation diet, Beverly Hills diet, Breatharian, Ornish Plan – the list goes on and on. These fad diets advocate a specific technique (such as eliminating a certain food, or eating only certain combinations of foods) in conjunction with the basic idea that the body makes up the difference in energy by breaking down and utilizing some part of itself, essentially converting matter into energy. This self-cannibalism, or catabolism as it is referred, typically starts with breakdown of stored body fat.

Benefits Of Eating A Low Cholesterol Diet

The liver makes most of the cholesterol in the body, but dietary cholesterol plays an important role in controlling all the cholesterol levels in the body. The levels include the total cholesterol and the good and bad cholesterol.

Good cholesterol, the HDL (high-density lipoproteins), protects the heart by helping to transport excess cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver for breakdown and disposal.

On the other hand, the bad LDL (low-density lipoproteins) cholesterol builds up plaque that clogs the arteries and hinders normal blood flow.

A low cholesterol diet should not only reduce the total cholesterol and LDL levels, it must also increase the HDL level at the same time.

Dietary Cholesterol

The main sources of dietary cholesterol are animal-derived foods rich in cholesterol and saturated fats, such as organ meats, egg yolk, butter and other full-cream dairy products. Trans fats (as those in deep-fried foods) and hydrogenated fats (as those in bakery items) are the other culprits.

In a low cholesterol diet, you would replace saturated fats with polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats such as oils of olive, canola, peanut, flaxseed, sunflower, and so on.

Fats to Avoid

As far as trans fats and hydrogenated fats are concerned, it is advisable to avoid them as far as possible, which means taking away French fries, crispies, cakes, cookies, pastries, and ice-creams from the low cholesterol diet menu.

Recommended Low Cholesterol Diet

Foods that should make an essential part of a low cholesterol diet must come from the following food groups:

Cereals and grains: Whole-wheat bread, unpolished rice, and oats-based cereals are foods that are rich in fiber, which helps sweep away the bad LDL cholesterol from the blood. In a low cholesterol diet it is essential to replace white bread and other refined, polished grains with whole-grain varieties.

Nuts and seeds: Nuts like almonds, peanuts, walnuts and seeds like flaxseeds are rich in antioxidants (such as vitamin E and selenium) and in good fats, called omega-3 fatty acids, which protect the heart by increasing the HDL level.

Nuts and seeds are also a rich source of fiber. The best way to include flaxseeds in a low cholesterol diet is by grinding them and sprinkling over cereals and salads.

Fish: Non vegetarians can choose to have a fatty cold-water fish such as salmon or tuna twice a week to get a rich supply of omega-3 fatty acids.

Beans and legumes: Beans, legumes and lentils are rich sources of protein and fiber and are low in fat content. They make an ideal substitute for meats. Soy cheese (tofu) is another good meat substitute in a low cholesterol diet.

Fiber-rich foods: Foods like oats, barley, psyllium, apples, pears, prunes, kidney beans and Brussels sprouts are rich in soluble fiber, which acts like a broom to sweep out the cholesterol from the arteries.

Fruits and vegetables: Fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with fiber, antioxidants, flavanoids and plant sterols, all of which help lower cholesterol and raise HDL level. Some 8-10 servings of fruits and vegetables should be included in the daily low cholesterol diet.

Garlic, onion: Some people believe garlic regulates liver functioning and dissolve the cholesterol deposits in the arteries. Others swear that including just half a raw onion in the daily low cholesterol diet can lower LDL level and increase HDL level.

Following a low cholesterol diet, with regular exercise, and cutting out on meats, full-cream dairy products, deep-fried foods and bakery items, can go a long way in lowering total cholesterol. Similarly, it lowers LDL cholesterol levels while raising the HDL level.

The main thrust of a low cholesterol diet is to reduce not only the amount of cholesterol one eats but also saturated fats and trans fats. Many studies into the way cholesterol works in the body have found that these two types of fats are actually more responsible for high blood cholesterol levels then foods that are naturally high in cholesterol.

Examining your daily diet will be the starting point for any changes that need to be made. One of the first areas that will need to be looked at and changed is the daily intake of red meats. These should be eaten in moderation and leaner cuts such as chicken and fish should be used. Red meats contain more saturated fats then more lean choices which can lead to a significant cholesterol increase. You should also bake, broil, or even use the grill as these allow the fats to drain away from the meat.

Frying is no longer a good way to prepare any foods as the oils used will just add fat back into the foods negating any cholesterol lowering affects. This will make for a change in many peoples cooking habits but there are tasty alternatives to frying out there. There are a variety of herbs, spices, and seasoning available that bring out and enhance the flavors if foods. Many of these seasoning also have additional health benefits and will open up whole a new way of cooking that is healthy and full of flavor.

Dairy is another area that many people will need to make changes in. Most dairy products are high in saturated fat that needs to be avoided. This does not mean that dairy has to be completely given up, but it is important to make the switch to low fat products for all milk products, including cheese and butter. You can also substitute skim or soy milk for your daily milk consumption.

Another dairy product that can be confusing is eggs. The yolk of an egg is high in cholesterol and many people separate the whites from the yolk before using just the egg whites in their low cholesterol meal plans. The cholesterol in egg yolks is not necessarily bad if they are eaten in moderation. Of more concern are the saturated fats that many eggs are combined with, such as comes with bacon or sausage. This type of fat raises blood cholesterol levels more then the cholesterol found in eggs.

Starting a low cholesterol diet plan usually begins with your doctor. He or she can get you pointed in the right direction with the resources you need to take back control of your health. You can also find any number of books and internet sites that are good resources for food selection, recipes, and meal preparation. A low cholesterol diet is not something to be afraid of. It is the first step in taking control of your health and living your life to its fullest.

Help answer the question

Is their a "diet" frozen pizza out there for people with high-cholesterol?
I have now been on my low-cholesterol diet for 3 weeks now, its not as bad as I thought it would be, I have been trying to find healthy substitutes to some of my favorite meals, and one I am having trouble with is Frozen Pizza. I know I could make my own, but I want something that I can pick up quick for those days that I just don't feel like cooking.
