Types of Orthopaedic Surgery –

Hip Replacement Surgery –

Arthritis is the most common cause for hip replacement surgery. A degenerative joint disease found mostly in middle-aged and older adults called Osteoarthritis, causes the collapse of joint cartilage and adjacent bone in the hips. Rheumatoid arthritis that leads to pain and stiffness, due to inflammation of the synovial membrane that results in excessive synovial fluid.  Replacing the hip joint consists of replacing both the acetabulum and the femoral head. Such joint replacement Orthopaedic Surgery generally is conducted to relieve arthritis pain or fix severe physical joint damage as part of hip fracture treatment. Knee Replacement Surgery –

An artificial knee replacement is done when a knee is severely damaged by injury or disease. The most common condition that results in the need for knee replacement surgery is osteoarthritis is the main cause for knee replacement surgery. It is degenerative joint disease that is very common in middle-aged and older adults. It results in the breakdown of joint cartilage and adjacent bone in the knees. It may be performed for other knee diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. In patients with severe deformity from advanced rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, or long standing osteoarthritis, the surgery may be more complicated and bring high jeopardy. Osteoporosis does not typically cause knee pain, deformity, or inflammation and is not a reason to perform knee replacement.

Shoulder Joint Replacement Surgery –

Shoulder joint replacement surgery is a type of Orthopaedic Surgery which is performed to replace a shoulder joint with artificial components when the joint is severely damaged by such degenerative joint diseases as arthritis, or in complex cases of upper arm bone fracture. Shoulder Joint Replacement is a surgical method in which the diseased and damaged parts of the shoulder joint are removed and replaced by an artificial joint or a prosthetic joint. At-home Beauty Treatments Offer Lower Costs, Lower Risks

Many are afraid to undergo surgery because of the risks or the expense that is often associated with these cosmetic procedures. Fortunately, there are now products that can be used in the privacy of your own home for a fraction of the cost, are more convenient and offer great results.

For years, those searching to get rid of fine lines and get that healthy glow went to a physician for microdermabrasion, a treatment where dead skin cells are removed with tiny silicon or aluminum-oxide crystals blown against the skin using a hand-held device and then sucked up with a small vacuum. Costing about $1,200 a visit, the procedure was not easy on the wallet. But there’s a new generation of at-home alternatives that allows you to get similar results within weeks. Creams and serums that contain Retinol (pure vitamin A) exfoliate the skin, giving a more youthful appearance. Those who want to go a step further can now buy their own high-tech beauty treatment system, a microdermabrasion machine, at a cost of $79.95 (www.sharperimage.com).

Some women are unhappy with the size or shape of their bust. They might have always wished they were a cup size larger so that their clothes fit them better, or they may have noticed changes in their shape after childbirth. Regardless of the reason, many of these women are afraid or unwilling to undergo the pain associated with implants. Others are simply not willing to fork over the average $5,000 cost for surgery. Now there is another option available, a system that is clinically proven to grow a woman’s own natural breasts about a cup size without surgery, pills or creams.

These are just a few of the do-it-yourself at home beauty treatments that are easier on your wallet, provide you with more control of your looks and can be done on your own time. To find out more about these treatments, log on to their Web sites or try the procedures yourself for the ultimate proof. – NU

Beauty Treatments (part 2)

Beauty Treatments (part 2)

Let us continue to look at some of the available beauty treatments in more detail.

Make up Sessions

A make-up session can simply be a bit of fun or it can be educational too as clients can learn new methods of applying cosmetics and also identify colours which flatter their skin tone. There will be an initial consultation where the beauty therapist will learn from the client whether they wish to learn how to apply make-up or cover scars and blemishes, if they are attending a special occasion such as a wedding or are simply feeling the need for a little pampering. Usually, the session will include cleansing, toning and moisturizing of the skin before cosmetics are applied to the face.

Hair removal

Epilation refers to the removal of the entire hair (above and below the skin) from the face or body and can be temporary or permanent depending on the techniques used by the beauty therapist.

Temporary methods offered by beauty therapists, which generally need to be repeated every four to eight weeks, include:

Waxing – hot wax is useful for removing strong hair growth, for example, in the underarm or bikini area and results can last up to six weeks.

Sugaring – a sugar paste is applied to the skin and as it is at a very low temperature, it is thought to be gentler on the skin.

Permanent hair removal techniques, where a course of treatments is usually required include:

Electrolysis or short-wave diathermy – an electrical current cauterizes the hair follicle and then each hair is removed using tweezers.

Laser – this is the newest technique for hair removal and is more effective on coarse, dark hair than lighter hair because intense pulsed light interacts with the pigment in the hair. Medical supervision is required and so it tends to be offered in more specialized establishments.

Massage

Each massage therapy has its own specific benefits. However, generally speaking massage helps to improve circulation and relax muscles. Techniques offered by beauty therapists include Swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, Thai, Shiatsu and Indian Head massages.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy refers to the application of water as a form of treatment and there are different types of hydrotherapy treatment available, which are usually offered at a spa. Hydrotherapy baths use powerful jets of water to massage, tone and stimulate the muscles and they may be used in combination with seaweeds, mineral salts or mud treatments. Other treatment options include thalassotherapy pools and plunge pools.

If you choose just one or even all of the beauty treatments discussed in these articles, hopefully you will have a relaxing and enjoyable experience that leaves you feeling refreshed and ready to face the world again.

Ayurvedic Beauty Care

Ayurvedic Beauty Care

Ayurvedic Beauty Care

Being the mirror, the barometer of an individual’s health, skin is the clue to one’s Ayurvedic constitution. This can be understood by the types of skin that one has. Example: If vata is predominant the skin of a person is dry, rough, cold, thin with fine pores and wrinkled. In case of pitta constitution, the skin is delicate, fair and red toned with freckles, moles or acne and burns easily. If the constitution is of kapha dosha the skin of a person is oily, smooth, moist and thick with a tendency towards large pores.

Ayurvedic Beauty Care presents both ancient and modern Ayurvedic secrets for beauty care. The aim of this book is to elevate our western understanding of beauty to new levels with deeper Ayurvedic insights. These insights hold powerful health promoting and enhancing methods and luxurious beauty techniques such that all levels of beauty (outer, inner, secret) can be realized in our increasingly fast paced and chaotic world.

The rejuvenation therapy in ayurveda teaches ways to become naturally beautiful, which is not just limited to the physical body but extends to subtle qualities and vitality of a person. Hence rejuvenation therapy is regarded as an integral part of ongoing self-care that helps beauty be with you throughout life and a fresh start in the process of making health-supporting lifestyle changes.

From an ayurvedic perspective there are seven dhatus or tissues. The outer layer being the skin and innermost being the blood plasma. Srotas or channels pass through the dhatus. Srotas when blocked or filled with toxins are the seat of disease or imbalance.

For Vata skin to stay youthful, skin care products used should be very nurturing. They must include some essential oils or herbs in combination, which can nourish the skin and rehydrate it, otherwise it may be susceptible to wrinkles and premature aging. Going to bed on time, eating regular meals, and following a regular daily routine are essential components of a holistic approach to Vata skin care, as are eating foods that help balance Vata and nourish the Vata skin.

Ayurveda is very much skeptical about wearing make ups. Even an inch of makeup on face can’t hide the worries of mind, period. There is one important aspect of lavanya sutra, Ayurvedic beauty care treatise. It is not only the physical aspect that gives beauty to a woman, but also her mental bearings. The happiness of mind will be easily visible on face. So is gloom and worries.

Who Will Benefit From Sedation Dentistry In Parramatta, West Sydney, Wentworthville, Merrylands West, Australia?

There is often a fear associated with visiting the dentist and getting treatment done. Sedation dentistry in Parramatta, West Sydney, Wentworthville, Merrylands West, Australia is the answer to this fear and pain. What is it and who will benefit from sedation dentistry?

Sedation dentistry is the use of sedatives and tranquilizers during dental procedures. Sedation dentistry makes use of intravenous or even inhalation drugs to help the patient relax and calm down during the treatment process so that he is not aware of the procedure and the pain.

Sedation dentistry is sometimes mistakenly referred to as sleep dentistry. Sedation dentistry doesn’t put the patient to sleep but sedates the patient into a state where he may feel sleepy.

So who will benefit from sedation dentistry? Sedation dentistry will benefit anyone who has a need for dental treatment, either because there is an infection or for cosmetic reasons but has a lot of fear and anxiety about going to the dentist.

Sedation dentistry will benefit also those who are afraid of needles as they can be sedated through inhalation without using needles.

Anyone who has very sensitive teeth will also benefit from sedation dentistry as it will help them cope with the pain during the treatment.

Those who have gag reflexes and find it difficult to have anything in their mouth will benefit from sedation dentistry.

Sedation dentistry will benefit patients with conditions like Parkinson’s or Cerebral Palsy which results in loss of motor control as the sedative will help relax the muscles.

Dentist and the malpractice insurance they are required to carry. What is lawsuit protocol?
I am in medical malpractice settlement negotiations with a dentist. Her insurance company was handling the negotiations, then the dentist license expired and the insurance company dropped the dentist. The dentist obtained a new policy from a new insurance company. Now the original insurance company has dropped out of negotiations. Is it possible that the original insurance company wants me to file suit against the dentist, and then the new insurance company will have to defend the dentist? Or, because the first insurance company received the initial settlement letter with notice of intent to sue, they will have to carry on and defend the dentist even though they no longer have the dentist as a client. Please clarify the typical procedure in this type of situation. Thanks a million! N.
Thanks for the info. I do have an attorney. But I do not want to sue and want to settle. The original insurance Co. made an offer, then we countered..then the Ins Co. dropped the dentist, and did not responded to the counter offer. SO, of course the attorney wants to sue cause he will make the big bucks. I want to settle because we were on track to settle. I just can't figure why the original insurance company would want to go to court unless they really don't care one way or another because the dentist is no longer a concern to them in the long run??? Tks. for you input.

Healthcare and the Family Budget - How to Get the Biggest Bang for your Buck!

When considering the family budget and being a good parent, providing quality healthcare at a reasonable price is right up there with the mortgage payment, car payments and college tuition. Consumer driven healthcare is a movement in the United States. Consumer Driven Healthcare relies on a free-market approach to control costs through consumer choice, with employees assuming greater ownership for their healthcare decisions and related finances. Consumer driven healthcare is about changing employee behavior. Consumer driven healthcare is just talk and will fail unless we want to walk the walk. In simple words, the hope for consumer driven healthcare comes from the simple notion that putting responsibility for expenses and decisions back into the hands of the consumer will result in more rational utilization of resources. So while the healthcare debate heats up in Washington, across the state capitals, in corporate boardrooms, on the campaign trail and on TV, some of us folks are trying to make sense of “consumer driven healthcare”.

Consumer-Driven Healthcare also referred to as “CDH”, is a type of health plan that gives members more choice and flexibility in making health benefits decisions and more control over their health benefits dollars. Consumer-driven care will change the way your hospital does business. Consumers will increasingly take on the responsibility of managing their own health benefits, in many cases through individually held health savings accounts that will give them greater freedom to determine when and how they spend their healthcare dollars. Consumer-driven healthcare is defined as a system where consumers, not the employer or insurance provider, determine how and where to spend their healthcare dollars. However, consumer-driven healthcare (CDH) can result in savings and greater flexibility for consumers of all kinds. The merits of various types of consumer-driven programs are being hotly debated, but the reality is that CDHC simultaneously creates both a consumer “movement” as their financial responsibility and involvement in their care choices increase, and a consumer experience.

If healthcare were consumer-driven, “maintenance” prescriptions (medications you need over long periods of time) wouldn’t require complicated pre-authorization forms from your doctor, which are usually rejected the first time around. If healthcare were consumer-driven, basic allergy medications like Zyrtec wouldn’t be so hard to come by, and wouldn’t cost $25 a bottle out-of-pocket. If healthcare were consumer-driven, patients wouldn’t be forced to choose between complex HMO, PPO, and POS plan options that leave a loophole for various “medical groups” to decline responsibility for specific doctor’s office visits or treatments (sticking the befuddled patient with the full bill). “Consumers have choice in every area of their lives, except healthcare,” he stated. Nearly 85 percent of consumers responding to a new survey said that they believed hospitals and doctors should be required to disclose their prices.

Opponents argue that CDH is really just cost shifting from employers to employees and that rather than spending more responsibly, consumers in these types of plans will be more inclined to avoid necessary care.

Consider these options for maximizing your health care discounts: Ask your doctor’s office if they provide a discount for paying cash. Start today and put these easy steps into practice to become a champion of consumerism and proactive consumer of health care. A survey of more than 70 leading health care insurers (representing more than 100 million insured individuals) found that over the next 12 months health care costs are projected to increase by 10. However, consumer-driven healthcare (CDH) can result in savings and greater flexibility for consumers of all kinds. Learn how CDHC will change the way health care is financed and delivered. Understand how CDHC will affect health plans, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies.

Shop-Till-You-Drop the debate rages on about how to reform healthcare in America… Meanwhile, what can we do to become more successful consumers? We consumers may not be in the healthcare driver’s seat yet, but we can at least become more vocal back-seat drivers. ” The consumer experience combines the individual’s sense of empowerment, because he has direct input into decisions about his healthcare, with the knowledge and tools he needs to make those decisions.

In my opinion the ultimate goal of CDHC should be to put control of you health decisions back into the hands of the consumer and their healthcare provider of choice, (in other words you and your doctor) not into the hands of the insurance companies and the employer. To get the biggest bang from your buck look at getting a

1. Discount Health Plan,

2. Health Savings Account

3. High Deductible Health Plan

The Discount Health Plan saves you money on the day to day health care expenses. The Health Savings Plan is a savings account where you deposit money for future large medical or other expenses. The High Deductible Insurance Plan will kick in to cover the hospital expenses when something really serious happens such as heart attack, stroke, cancer etc. But and this is a big but, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING THE DEDUCTIBLE and that could be up to $5 or $10 thousand dollars or more depending on your plan. This is why you will need the discount plan and the savings plan. If your cash flow is low and you have a really good Discount Health Plan which includes a Patient Advocacy program at no additional cost this is a good start. The Patient Advocacy program will negotiate with the hospital and GREATLY reduce or eliminate your hospital bill when you have one. You can find a really excellent plan for less then $60 a month for an entire household. When you can afford to add the other one or two do so if you desire. How to Help: Supporting an Infertile Couple

Most couples are very surprised when they discover that they may be infertile. This can be an emotional blow to a family. The couple dealing with infertility can really be in for a roller coaster ride of draining emotional experiences. Seeing someone you love go through something so complicated can be hard for family and friends as well. You may feel very sad and helpless when talking with the couple. You may feel like you should offer advice.

Keep in mind that you are not an infertility specialist and you have no way of knowing what infertility treatment may be best for the ones you love. Be careful about finding a lot of information online and offering it up as a solution to all of their problems. Many couples experiencing infertility are very deeply affected by their problem and may react irrationally to suggestions from family and friends. Dealing with infertility is a very personal journey that couples must go through together.

Remember that the couple is probably having trouble dealing with their infertility. Men and women react differently to infertility and some may consider their partner’s reaction to be the wrong one. This can really cause the couple to be in an uphill battle with each other. You offering up solutions is not going to solve all of their problems. You may only be giving them more to deal with. This can severely impact relationships, so you should proceed carefully when offering support and advice.

Do not get discouraged, there are ways that you can offer support without causing more harm than good. You can still be a pillar for the couple to lean on. You can be supportive without intruding on personal matters. Let the couple come to you with information rather than constantly prying for the scoop. Let them know that you are here if they need you, but you understand that this can be a very personal matter. Be there when they want to talk. Don’t discount their fears because they can be very real. Being afraid and talking about it to a third party can be very therapeutic for a couple. Offer perspective whenever possible, but don’t pretend to completely understand, as every situation is different.

One thing to remember is that the couple you care about is feeling very much out of control in a lot of ways. You can offer constructive support by giving them control whenever possible. Asking how you can help and putting them in control of dictating your role can help them feel supported without giving them the impression that they need to be saved. If they would like for you to stay out of it, then stay out of it. Let them know that you respect that decision and that you will be there for them if they need you. Support the decisions that they make as far as treatments are concerned. Wish them well, but try not to speculate on whether certain treatments will work. Offer as much support as needed without going overboard and you will be a great asset to the struggling couple.

Patients of Dr. Eric Daiter have often offered kind words about the way that he handles their very personal infertility situations. If you are searching for a specialist to deal with the infertility treatment of the ones you love, you may want to take personal testimonials like the one below into consideration.

Let me share some examples of the kind of attention Dr. Eric Daiter’s patients receive. While his main office is in Edison NJ, he maintains a satellite office in Ocean Township NJ. The Ocean Township office is closer to my home. However, given the nature of his practice, timing is everything. Ovulation did not always occur when he had office hours in Ocean Township. Dr. Eric Daiter, therefore, arranged to see me in his Ocean Township office, outside his normal hours, to accommodate my schedule or that of my husband. He did this on several occasions.

I have had the occasion to call Dr. Eric Daiter’s office with questions and concerns. His office staff has always been kind and courteous. Surely, this is a positive reflection on their employer. Further, if he was not available to take my call immediately, he never failed to promptly return calls, even on Saturdays. Additionally, he always spent as much time as necessary explaining things and answering questions. Neither my husband nor I ever had the impression that he was in a hurry or a rush to move on to the next patient.
