Finding Prostate Cancer Treatment Options

With prostate cancer estimated to affect as many as 1 in 6 men, any new research developments that may affect treatment are extremely noteworthy. Because the risks of having prostate cancer increase dramatically with age, every generation is in a race against the clock to find the most effective treatment methods, or prevention methods, possible.
Recently a medical study on men with prostate cancer introduced very interesting news that contradicted some previously held beliefs in the medical community. Some physicians have withheld potentially curative treatment in older men because of a concern about side effects of radiation or surgery. Other physicians have used hormone therapy as a means of delaying cancer progression instead of offering potentially curative treatment.
This new study by Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, however, suggests that drug treatment alone does not improve survival rates of men taking it, and might actually be hindering their improvement. The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in July.
The prostate cancer information generated by this article studied about 20,000 men, including Medicare patients, whose prostate cancer had not spread to other areas of the body. The study took 6 years to complete, as information was gathered and the men were studied. All study participants were over the age of 66, which means that the data drawn from the study is particularly relevant to older men, but not necessarily accurate for younger men. Average age of a study participant was 77.
Researchers found that the typical treatment of testosterone-blocking drugs might have more drawbacks than benefits. The testosterone-blockers are meant to keep cancer cells from growing, but also have side effects such as bone loss, impotence, and increased risk for diabetes and heart disease. Ultimately, a treatment plan of the testosterone-blocking drugs alone, in older men, didn’t appear to be effective.
For men considering Georgia prostate cancer surgery, this study does not influence the need for curative surgery or radiation. Often the antihormone drugs can be very effective when they are paired with surgery or radiation. To maximize the effectiveness of a cancer treatment plan for Georgia men, prostate cancer might require surgery or radiation, rather than drug treatment alone.
Researchers theorized that many men felt they were improving their health by taking the drugs without surgery or radiation, because it was a better course of action than doing nothing. Now that their research has shown this to be an ineffective method of treatment by itself, the researchers hope that doctors will avoid the drug treatments except in combination with radiation and/or surgery.
For older men looking for information about Georgia prostate cancer treatment, the study offers an important topic to bring up with their doctors. While surgery and radiation can seem scary, the solution to prostate cancer doesn’t appear to be as easy as popping a pill or receiving an injection, at least for older men. For Georgia men, prostate cancer treatment might require surgery, rather than the simpler approach of a drug treatment.
With the continued research and studies being done, advances in Georgia prostate cancer treatment are continually being made. At this point in time, however, drug treatment alone doesn’t seem to be an effective method in the fight against prostate cancer.

Conventional cancer treatments are based on the belief that cancer starts as a localized tumor, spreading to other parts of the body, and therefore requiring aggressive invasive treatments. Alternative or unconventional cancer treatments, on the other hand, are based on the belief that a healthy body with a healthy mind is capable of utilizing the immune system to destroy cancerous cells.
Individuals who seek unconventional cancer treatments are those whose health has not improved with conventional treatments, or those who are in the early stage of the disease and who are well educated and informed in alternative medicine. Of course, there are some patients who choose both conventional and unconventional treatments simultaneously.
Nowadays, there is an array of alternative cancer treatments to choose from, including diet, metabolic therapy, and cancer psychotherapy, among others.
The relation of diet and disease is best expressed in terms of the Oriental concept of “yin” and “yang.” The Oriental approach to cancer treatment is very different from that of Western medicine, which focuses on a different biological understanding of the disease, often involving aggressive and invasive procedures to kill, remove, or transform the cancerous cells. The Oriental way, on the other hand, focuses on the overall well-being of an individual, attained by a balanced diet, using “yin” and “yang” foods to balance and complement each other.
For centuries, the Chinese have observed the importance of balance and harmony, which is manifested in the wholesome wellness of an individual. The concept of balance and harmony of “yin” and “yang” is central not only to the Chinese healing methods that use foods and herbs as medicine, but also to the Chinese way of eating and living. The “yin” and “yang” diet is a healthy diet that focuses on the basic principles of foods to restore balance and eliminate imbalance – which is the cause of disease.
Metabolic therapy is based on the concept of detoxification and rejuvenation. Toxins from foods and the environment, and free radicals produced through oxidation processes in the body contribute to cellular stress that causes cancer.
Detoxification is achieved through fasting and other means, such as liver detoxification. After detoxification, the treatment is followed by a vegetarian diet that focuses on raw “live” foods and fresh vegetable juices, to the exclusion of sugar, all white flour products, processed foods, and alcohol.
In addition, vitamins, such as vitamins A, C and E, are used as antioxidants against cellular damage due to radicals. Very often mega doses of vitamins C, are taken in conjunction with proteolytic enzymes to treat cancer. The cancer tumor shields itself from anticancer agents by forming a fibrous coating. However, proteolytic enzymes can digest this protective fibrous coating, and thus instrumental in allowing the body’s white blood cells to attack the cancer.
Cancer psychotherapy is based on the concept that effects of emotional stress can suppress immunity, and thus lowering resistance to cancer. Given that emotional factors play a pivotal role in causing cancer, the remedy is to change the personality through psychotherapy.
Visualization or mental imagery is also used to influence the immune system in cancer treatment. Mental imagery is a self-help technique for the cancer patient who is under stress. Using the mind as a tool to heal cancer may be a starter for other treatments.
Psychological techniques also include deep relaxation and hypnosis. However, most psychological techniques do not replace standard medical procedures; rather, they are used in conjunction with conventional cancer therapies, such as radiation.
Both conventional and unconventional cancer treatments have their pros and cons. Cancer treatment option is a personal choice. Prevention is better than cure. Cancer is a very complex disease, and there are many factors contributing to the disease. Just remember that your lifestyle and the environment play an important role in the development of cancer.

A Tragic History: Mesothelioma and Asbestos Cancer

Many asbestos cancer experts, attorneys, and mesothelioma sufferers view asbestos as a material developed and used only in the 19th century. But in fact, asbestos was first discovered and named by the ancient Greeks. In this article, we will examine the facts of asbestos use throughout the ages. We will see what was known about the dangers of asbestos cancer, and when mesothelioma and asbestosis began to be recognized as the tragic illnesses they are known to be today.
Asbestos And Mesothelioma: From The Ancient World To The 21st Century
In ancient Rome, asbestos fibers were uses to make clothing flame retardant. In Greece, the fibers were used to make other textiles. In Persia, garments were prized for their ability to be cleaned over a fire, instead of with water. In China, Marco Polo describes similar items that were “washed” by being dropped into flames. These clothes could only have been made from asbestos. After the fall of the Roman Empire and the fade of the great empires of the east, the use of asbestos seemed to stop.
As of 1860, asbestos had appeared again across the United States and Canada, mostly used as insulation within buildings. In 1879, the first commercial asbestos mine appeared in Canada, just outside of Quebec. By the turn of the century, asbestos use was much more common: flame-resistant coatings, concrete, flooring, roofing, acid resistant materials, and lawn furniture all had asbestos components.
With the rise of asbestos use came the first recorded death as a result of mesothelioma asbestos cancer. In 1906, an asbestos miner died of asbestos cancer, but his cause of death was not established until later. However, further instances of mesothelioma — still diagnosed as an unknown lung disorder — were observed throughout the early 20th century, particularly in asbestos mining towns.
Libby, Montana is a modern example of a mining town contaminated with asbestos. The EPA has been attempting to clean up Libby for 10 years, but 200 people thus far have died from asbestos exposure, with over 1,000 sickened. The town was contaminated by a nearby vermiculite mine, its residents threatened by waste products and discarded materials from mining operations.
The town of Libby has been stricken by asbestos contamination despite modern day interventions. In the early days, before mesothelioma was recognized or asbestos poisoning considered, towns were even more dramatically impacted. Yet even now, when the dangers of asbestos, as well as its links with mesothelioma, are clear, company negligence still goes unpunished. The company responsible for the mine that contaminated Libby was recently acquitted in a trial centered around the deaths in the town. The mining company will face no penalty, despite the hundreds of asbestos poisoning deaths and thousands of asbestos-related illnesses in Libby.
The First Diagnosis Of Asbestos Cancer, Asbestosis, And Mesothelioma
In 1924, a doctor in England recognized the pattern of illness and made the first diagnosis of asbestos cancer. At the time, it was called asbestosis and the existence of mesothelioma remained unknown. Nonetheless, the initial diagnosis created a wave of laws about asbestos handling — at least in England. The United Kingdom began regulating ventilation and established asbestosis as an “excusable work related disease” in the 1930s. The United States did not take the same measures until nearly 10 years later.
Around 1930, the medical community was beginning to investigate mesothelioma, at that time a new disease with strange symptoms and little information. They could only observe the symptoms: coughing, shortness of breath, and generalized chest/lung pain. Mesothelioma was not connected to asbestos nor suggested as asbestos cancer until 1940.
What Did Companies Know About The Hazards Of Asbestos Exposure?
The basis of mesothelioma and asbestos cancer legislation is that many asbestos companies knew the material was dangerous, but did not protect workers and customers from these known dangers. Court documents have shown that companies began to learn about asbestos related health hazards as early as 1930, but despite this knowledge, they did nothing to keep workers or consumers safe. Instead, they allowed asbestos use to grow even as diagnoses of mesothelioma and asbestos cancer grew as well.
Although limited through a lawsuit, the Environmental Protection Agency issued a rule in 1989 that allows only trace amounts of asbestos to appear in modern building materials. Even though lingering asbestos contamination remains and threatens citizens, the modern world now recognizes the dangers of asbestos and no longer uses it as a primary material.
The Dangers Of Natural Asbestos
Although asbestos exposure occurs most commonly through contact with asbestos mines or products made from asbestos, there are also a shockingly large number of so-called asbestos “occurrences” throughout the U.S. These sites are not commonly monitored by the EPA, nor has much been done to clean them up or protect surrounding communities.
An asbestos “occurrence” is defined as a place where asbestos has been observed, but not mined or prospected for mining. These veins of asbestos can be shallow enough that asbestos dust rises into the air, making the name “occurrences” misleading – they’re more like “hazards.” There are 205 such documented occurrences throughout the eastern part of the U.S., and most of these have been discovered through anecdotal evidence rather than active surveys. The government has helped to clean up commercial asbestos use, but they have done little to control the dangers of exposure to the material in its natural state. Even when not manufactured or milled, asbestos and its fibers can cause mesothelioma, asbestos cancer, asbestos poisoning, and all the other horrific conditions that can result from the disease.
Mesothelioma and Asbestos Cancer Today
Although asbestos has been regulated for 20 years, mesothelioma lawsuits are still being filed today because of the long incubation period of the disease. The cancer frequently requires 20-50 years between exposure and the manifestation of symptoms, meaning that many workers who handled asbestos during the height of its use are only just starting to show symptoms. Sadly, the numbers of lawsuits are only expected to increase. Asbestos cancer is tragic, and has been tragic throughout history. But today we can fight back against the companies that failed to protect us, and we can know that the world is safer for our children.

Why Is Mesothelioma Relevant Today?

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is almost always caused by an exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a naturally-occurring mineral that was widely used, but is now known to be a potentially fatal carcinogen. The asbestos fiber consists of long, thin fibrous crystals and may be mixed with other substances in order to resist heat, electricity and chemical damage. Due to these characteristics, asbestos was used in many buildings and other structures throughout the 1900s. One estimation is that up to 80 percent of all buildings constructed before 1978 had asbestos within the design.
The cancer that this substance can lead to–mesothelioma–can be either malignant or benign. The malignant type of mesothelioma is the most hazardous form of asbestos cancer and is deadly in most cases. It affects the tissue known as the mesothelium, which protects the heart, stomach, lungs, and other organs by making a special fluid that allows the organs to move.
So if asbestos is a well known poison, and is no longer used in today’s structures, why would mesothelioma still be relevant today? The buildings that contained asbestos are still in existence and many of them, especially those that were made before the 1970s, are undergoing vast renovations. During the renovation or demolition process, the asbestos fibers are released into the air, and from there can be breathed into the lungs, causing untold damage. With more and more people willing to “do-it-yourself,” people are more apt to conduct their own renovation projects, rather than contracting professionals. Yet exposure to asbestos, even for brief periods, can be very dangerous–especially without proper precautions.
Another reason mesothelioma cancer is still relevant is because of its long latency period. Due to the way it forms, the cancer may not manifest until anywhere between 20 to 50 years after the initial asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is rare in people under the age of 55; three-fourths of people diagnosed with mesothelioma are over the age of 65. Therefore, people are just now discovering these lung abnormalities, that may stem from exposures that happened in the 1960’s or 1970’s!
As with most cancers, early diagnosis can increase the effectiveness of mesothelioma treatment. However, the symptoms of mesothelioma that do appear early usually mimic those of other ailments–such as emphysema, influenza, or even a common cold. Scientists are scrambling to unlock the technological advances that can help in the detection and treatment of this aggressive cancer, but there’s no way to turn back the clock and prevent exposure that may have happened decades ago.
Even people who did not work directly with asbestos can be at risk for mesothelioma. There have been cases, including a recent landmark lawsuit in Australia, involving caretakers of asbestos workers who contracted the disease simply by repeated secondary exposure to the carcinogen, such as washing contaminated clothes.
While asbestos is no longer widely used or considered a “miracle fiber,” as it was in days gone by, it still lingers in the infrastructures of the past and is still very present in today’s society.

Biological therapy or immunotherapy uses the body’s immune system to fight cancer, using antibodies to target and destroy leukemia cells
Radiation is treatment with high-energy rays that destroy cancer cells. Sometimes it is used for leukemia in the central nervous system or testicles as well as for pain caused by bone destruction. However, radiation is not the primary treatment for leukemia. In high doses radiation therapy kills cells or keeps them from growing and dividing. Radiation therapy is helpful in treating cancer because cancer cells reproduce faster than most normal cells.
Bone Marrow Transplants are probably the best bet for a cure in many cases of leukemia. Doctors perform this procedure when leukemia is in remission or when the patient relapses during or after treatment. Patients are given a bone marrow transplant so that their body can be given higher doses of chemotherapy drugs that would not be tolerated otherwise. Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells but it also kills normal cells in the bone marrow, making the bone marrow transplant necessary in order to make up for the destruction of normal cells.

Treatments for cancer today are all about money. The people who control the industry, and it’s not your doctor are only looking for ways to manage the disease with their 3 main treatments and profit from it through people with cancer. Today’s toxic treatments are a grand hoax.
The pharmaceutical industry is extremely well funded, has total control over the cancer industry as well as the media due to the massive amounts of advertising dollar spent by “Big Pharma.” Any other treatments that threaten this industry are ruthlessly suppressed.
Many alternative approaches for the treatment of cancer have a much higher success rate than those offered by pharmaceutical companies. The safest and most effective way to deal with cancer is to strengthen the body’s immune system which will allow the body to remove the cancer safely. Cancer is simply a disease of a weak immune system so doesn’t it make sense to strengthen it. There are only natural ways to do that and more importantly, with natural treatments no one can make any money out of them, that’s why they are suppressed.
A patient, when first diagnosed with cancer, will be in shock and will be at the mercy of their health professional regarding treatment options. They will blindly follow authority without stopping and applying a bit of common sense. The more ignorant you are about why you got cancer, the easier it will be for the cancer industry to manipulate you into their system of treatments. Current conventional cancer treatments today represent a multi-billion dollar a year industry and these vast profits are fiercely protected by the industrial giants who control them. Our orthodox treatments today are keeping us submissive and illiterate by suppressing any information on any other way to cure cancer.
Nothing, except money is to be gained by pretending that the battle against cancer is slowly but surely being won when their cure rate now days is a paltry 3 to 4 percent. Also there is nothing in surgery, radiation and chemotherapy that will prevent the spread of cancer.
There is a cure for all cancers and that involves making lifestyle changes, especially to our food intake which will boost the immune system as the most efficient healer the human body has for cancer and many other degenerative diseases is a correctly functioning natural immune system. The human body is a miraculous living being and even as we slowly learn more about it we will never fully understand its inner workings completely because of its complexities. By using natural therapies, they will strengthen the body and allow the body to remove the cancer safely, which it will do?
I realize that not everyone can make changes to the way they live because many of us are creatures of habit to some degree and don’t have the ability to make those changes that are absolutely necessary to boost the immune system and cure cancer. For that reason I support the use of our mainstream treatments for those people but, be aware of the toxicity and the ineffectiveness of those treatments.
We get cancer now days because of the way we live with our diet of processed food, our lack of exercise and the toxic products we surround ourselves with. The common sense way to cure cancer is to remove those known causes which will strengthen the all important immune system and return you to health.
The bottom line is you need to take charge of your cancer; make those necessary changes as no one can do it for you. Appropriate diet and lifestyle changes are your first line of defence.

How can I build up my immune system after breast cancer treatments?
I have a very low immune system since I had chemotherapy, radiation, and other breast cancer treatments and surgeries. Since I finished chemo and radiation less than a year ago, I have had shingles, meningitis, and have had to fight 2 infections in my left breast that had the radiation in it and will have to go in for surgery to have the implant removed, and replaced. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. What can I do? Also, gained 40 lbs and hate the weight gain.

Russia protests against asbestos ban

Russia, the world’s leading producer of asbestos, protested as an international forum in Moscow urged a global ban on the use of the material because of health risks.
“It’s just a PR campaign when they say that asbestos can kill,” said Viktor Ivanov, head of the Chrysotile Association, an industry group based in the Russian town of Asbestos in the Ural mountains region.
Yevgeny Kovalevsky, a forum delegate from the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, said: “For the general population, there aren’t significant risks… I haven’t seen a single scientific study that shows the need for a ban.”

Anemia is a blood disorder that is created when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells. These cells are the main transporters of oxygen to organs. If red blood cells are also deficient in hemoglobin, then your body is not getting enough iron.
Anemia is usually detected or at least confirmed by a complete blood cell (CBC) count. It is the common blood disorder. There are several kinds of anemia, produced by a variety of underlying causes. Anemia can be classified in a variety of ways, based on the morphology of RBCs. It is found in the person when the number of red blood cells in your blood is low. For this reason, doctors sometimes describe anemia as having a low blood count
Symptoms of anemia:
- feeling of restless fastly and loss of energy.
- fatigue — occur because organs aren’t getting enough oxygen
- Unusually rapid heart beat, particularly with exercise
- Shortness of breath and headache in exercise also
- Difficulty in concentrating on something
Types & causes of Anemia
1) Macrocytic anemia:Macrocytic anemia can be further divided into “megaloblastic anemia” or “non-megaloblastic macrocytic anemia”. The cause of megaloblastic anemia is primarily a failure of DNA synthesis with preserved RNA synthesis, which result in restricted cell division of the progenitor cells.
2)Microcytic anemia: Microcytic anemia caused due to hemoglobin synthesis failure or insufficiency .Iron deficiency anemia is the common type of anemia so it has many causes. RBCs often appear hypochromic (paler than usual) and microcytic (smaller than usual) when viewed with a microscope
3)Normocytic anemia :Normocytic anaemia causes when the overall Hb levels are decreased, but the red blood cell size (MCV) remains normal. Causes include:
- Accurate blood loss
- Anemia of chronic disease
- Bone marrow failure Aplastic anemia
4)Heinz body anemia: Heinz bodies are an abnormality that forms on the cells in this condition. This form of anemia may be brought on by taking certain medications; it is also triggered in cats by eating onions or acetaminophen (Tylenol). It can be triggered in dogs by ingesting onions or zinc and in horses by ingesting dry Red Maple leaves.
5) Dimorphic anemia : When two causes of anemia act simultaneously, e.g., macrocytic hypochromic due to hookworminfestation leading to deficiency of both iron and vitamin B12or folic acid or following a blood transfusion more than one abnormality of red cell indices may be seen Hemolytic anemia
There are more than 400 types of anemia found in the medical science, which are divided into 3 groups:
- Anemia caused by blood loss
- Anemia caused by decreased or faulty red blood cell production
- Anemia caused by destruction of red blood cells
Treatments of Anemia
To over come the problem of anemia,
1)A proper diet including green vegetables is must
2)Consult with doctor or physician to diagnose the type of anemia and treatment options
3)Take proper nourishments, vitamins and nutritional supplements – Iron, B12 or folic acid

We just got back the 26-week blood-work for my wife and they said she has a mild case of anemia, and told her to start taking an over-the-counter drug 2 times a day.
How serious is this? What are the possible consequences of having anemia?

How can cancer develop in really healthy people taking good care of themselves?
A heavy smoker can develop lung cancer because of harmful chemicals overtime to his lungs. But sometimes, lung cancer can develop in a nonsmoker's lung. Or breast cancer can develop in a healthy woman's body.
Don't get me wrong. I know that healthy people are much less likely to get cancer. However, sometimes cancer can develop in healthy people.

Traditional Cancer Treatment Options
Traditional cancer treatment options are often referred to as cut, poison and burn (surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation).
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy, which involves the use of chemical agents or drugs to destroy cancerous cells, forms the core treatment of malignancies. External-beam radiation therapy, which involves using radiation that is emitted from a machine outside the body is more common than internal radiation therapy, in which a radioactive material is implanted in the body near the tumor or cancer cells.
Surgery
Surgery often entails a biopsy, which is done for diagnostic purposes. Surgery that is done to remove the cancerous tissues is often followed by chemotherapy or radiotherapy, which reduces the risk of the cancer recurring and also to destroy any cancer cells that may be left behind in the affected part of the body.
The kind of surgery depends on which part of the body has been affected by cancer as well as the extent of the cancer. In breast cancer patients the options could include lumpectomy, in which only the lump is removed; segmentectomy, in which part of the breast is removed or mastectomy, in which the entire breast is removed.
Alternative Cancer Treatment Options
Traditional cancer treatment options form only art of the story. An increasing number of health professionals are now exploring alternative cancer treatment options that encompass the whole individual.
Nutrition Therapy

Cancer Treatment?
I have been in cancer treatment for the last 3 years, so I read a lot of stuff pertaining to cancer. THere are so many claims out there for alt or natural meds or herbal remedies.
I am very well aware some of these things help with treatment. I have used a couple to help, treating the side effects of therapy, mainly on a mind control, psychological basis.
However, I want to know:
The people who tout some alt med as a CURE, do you feel strongly enough about what you are advertising that you would use the exact same protocol, and that protocol only (meaning no chemo surgery or radiation, as most alt treatments advertise).
Anyone currently under going an alt treatment only to treat cancer?
I would just like to know how many people truely have that much faith in the methods they are suggesting or selling.
Weed doesnt treat the cancer, side effects only. I have used both real mj, and the synthetic thc rx marinol, both helped with the side effects.
I have actually finished treatment, and there werent many alt treatments for mine, not even ones that didnt make sense.
I am not looking for me, just trying to get some knowledge. I know all sorts of alt treatments help with side effects, provide nourishment and all that.
What I want to know, is if anyone that touts these supposed cure treatments have actually used what they advertise alone for treatment (without using chemo, surgery, or radiation).
I am challenging those who would like to make a lot of money selling these alt treatments are willing to put their mouth where there money is.
For example, is there anyone out there who has actually used, say juicing, ALONE, WITHOUT CHEMO SURGERY OR RADIATION, to TREAT their cancer. Not asking for prevention, or help with side effects.
