Healthy Diet

One of the important things you can do for your overall health is to eat a healthy diet. Your diet affects your weight and increases your risks of health diseases. Deciding a healthy diet is easier to say than to do because it is tempting to eat less healthy foods. Different people decide different healthy diet because you might eat this kind of diet while others just cannot stand the food you eat and find its alternative. That’s what health experts are here for, to let us know which food are healthier than others.

What are the principles of healthy eating?

Know What Healthy Food Is and How You Should Eat

When pursuing a healthy eating plan, you should remember the following:

1. Try and Eat a Variety of Different Colored Food – You should remember that different foods have different nutritional values. Food can be rich in antioxidants or Vitamin C. So, when you go to do your regular weekly shop, try and see what different colored foods you can pick up.

Down the fruit and vegetable aisle you should see greens, yellows, oranges and reds. You should have as much of a color variety in your trolley as you can. For example, when picking out fruit pick up strawberries, oranges, pineapple, apples, blueberries and bananas and you will notice what a large color selection you actually have. The same goes for vegetables. Basically, more color means that it is better and healthier for you.

2. Eat Foods from All Food Groups – The problem with many diets these days is the fact that they tell you to cut certain foods from certain food groups, out of the diet altogether. This means that you lose important nutrition and don’t eat as healthy as you could be. So, the answer to a healthy diet is to eat a variety of different foods.

Generally, fruit and vegetables should make up the main portion of your diet but you still need carbohydrates such as potatoes, meat or fish and a little bit of fatty foods like flaxseed oil which many experts recommend as part of a good fat diet. Overall, a diverse mixture of all food groups is needed for a healthy diet!

3. When You Need to Eat Snack, Do It on Healthy Foods – It doesn’t mean that just because you want to lose weight, you’ll have to skip your snack. In fact, snacking can actually be quite good for you just as long as you are eating the right foods.

Generally, when we want to eat snack, we reach for a biscuit or a packet of crisps. However, if you want to eat a healthy snack, then you will have to swap those for nuts, seeds or fruit and vegetables. That way you will get energy, you will also be full until your next meal time and it will be completely healthy.

Since you know what foods you like and what you don’t, you really have to decide for your own healthy eating plan. However, the said tips above can help you to choose the best healthy eating plan for you.

Question and Answer

Can a healthy diet lower your immunities or immune system?
Around november of last year, i switched over from a disgusting junk food thriving, soda drinking, chain smoking living habit to a cleaner more exercise and healthy eating habit. Before i switched, i got sick maybe once a year. Ever since i changed things, I've caught several colds, and a very mild case of strep. Basically what i'm asking is can a healthier diet put you at risk for sickness or common viruses?

Factors to Consider for a Diet for Health

Food is the matter that is taken into the body to supply nourishment or to replace tissue-waste. Every physical act consumes a part of the force that has been derived from food. The maintenance of the body-heat consumes another part, and in growing individuals a certain amount is utilized in building up the new tissues.

Food as it is taken into the body differs very much in composition from the material that can be utilized in cell-growth and in replacing the tissue-waste. The function of digestion is so to alter the food that it may be absorbed by the blood, and prepare it for assimilation and utilization by the various tissues. The food of mankind is most varied in nature, differing with the seasons, and with climates, races and countries.

The study of foods is a most complex one, and until recently few scientific investigations along this line had been made. Fortunately, however, experiments are now being carried on the world over, and it is to be hoped that the subject of diet in health and in disease will soon be lifted out of the vale of empiricism where it has so long rested.

Water enters into the composition of every tissue in the body and forms more than 60 per cent, of the entire body weight of a full-grown man. As it is not burned up in the metabolic processes, it does not furnish any energy.

The earthy salts, which form about 6 per cent, of the body weight of an adult man, furnish little if any energy. They are most abundant in the bones and teeth, but they also enter into the composition of other tissues and fluids of the body. The principal salts of the body are calcium phosphate and the various compounds of potassium, sodium, magnesium, and iron. The mineral salts are very necessary to life and health.

Proteins are substances which contain nitrogen, are essential to life, and are regarded as combinations of the various amino-acids. In addition to carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen protein generally contains sulphur and some of them phosphorus, iron, copper, iodine, manganese and zinc.

The proteins are variously classified and two elassfications, based on the solubility, have been suggested, one by the English Society of Physiologists and one by the American Society of Biochemists.

Proteins are essential to life and the body is constantly metabolizing it, whether any is being taken in or not. In ordinary life the body is in protein (or nitrogen) equilibrium and as much protein as is ingested is metabolized. It is difficult to get a positive nitrogen balance, except after prolonged fasting or after recovery from wasting diseases or during the period of body growth.

A negative nitrogen balance is seen in starvation where more is used up than is taken in and in all wasting diseases, such as tuberculosis, in fevers, and hyperthyroidism. In pathological states such as nephritis there may be retention of nitrogen compounds in the body due to the failure of the kidney to excrete them, and if the amount exceeds a certain amount a condition of poisoning and uremia is brought about.

Some food proteins are better suited for human food than others, because when broken up into their elementary parts or amino-acids more of these can be utilized in forming the various body tissues than those derived from other foods. For this reason the proteins of milk, meat, eggs and fish are most valuable, those of rice and potatoes next in value, while those of wheat, maize and beans are distinctly inferior.

Who Else Is Looking For The Right Weight Loss Diet Supplements?

A question often asked by those looking to lose a few extra pounds is whether or not weight loss diet supplements actually work. The Answer? Well, it’s both yes and no. Here’s why…

The market today is so saturated with junk products people are often lured by savvy marketing. While it’s great for business, it’s not so great for you the end user. Far too often do I see people who unfortunately make a purchase based on impulse. Shortly after they quickly realize they were suckered into the latest and greatest “FAD”, totally wasted their money, and most importantly never experienced the results they were anticipating.

If you choose to use weight loss diet supplements be sure you do your homework. Research the company, read testimonials, if possible talk to actual product users and ask them about their experience. Don’t be fooled by only good testimonials supplied by the company, take time and be sure you talk to actual users. Weigh the pros and cons of each testimonial. Make sure you also research any complaints that may have been compiled against the particular supplement you are considering.

Try to understand the ingredients in the product. Since there are so many, this step is critical because taking the wrong weight loss diet supplements could actually do you more harm than good, it may even kill you! I don’t want to scare you but you should take the time to understand what side effects could occur so you know what to expect. Don’t get suckered in by some marketing lure, take your time and be sure you are getting a product that will work.

Look at the history of the company, do they offer some type of NO hassle guarantee? If you want to truly measure whether or not you are going to see results, look for a company that has a 60 or 90 day money back guarantee. That will give you ample time to try out the product and most importantly see results. I would stay away from any product that does not have a guarantee associated with it. By offering a guarantee it tells you that the company is serious enough to stand behind its product and it’s more than likely going to give you the results that you are looking for. At that point your risk is reduced to zero and it’s all up to the weight loss diet supplements to do the rest.

Weight loss diet supplements can and will work, when you’re using the correct ones. Above all, be sure you take the time to properly educate yourself about the products that you are considering. Don’t get scammed by the latest and great pill that promises to do incredible things for you. It will give you a sense of false hope and you will only be let down. Ultimately with careful selection you’ll not only be able to shake off a few extra pounds but you’ll be able to keep it off and never have to fear it coming back on.

Question and Answer

What is the most effective diet supplement out there today?
In the past, I've taken Ma Huang and had really great results. It was banned by the FDA, but then made a comeback with 10 mg per pill. I am currently taking SlimFast as my diet supplement, but want a boost to go with that. I am getting married in September and I need to lose at least 20 pounds by then.
I also do not want to spend 100s of dollars on supplements.

Hoodia Diet Supplement - is it Effective?

The hoodia diet supplement is taking the world by storm. Exactly what is this amazing substance? Where does one get it and is it safe? Does it even work? First, let it be known that hoodia has been proven to work. The downside to this, is only one study has been done to determine that.

In that study a group of very large individuals were divided into two groups, one got the hoodia, one did not. The ones that did reported a decrease of 1000 calories during the day. This is amazing compared to the normal caloric intake for a man is 2600 on average, and 1900 for a woman. By doing nothing else, one could lose two pounds a week.

Hoodia does not come cheap. Find it cheap, it probably isn’t hoodia, at least not the variety you need. The plant is found in the deserts of South Africa. Out of the many varieties, only Hoodia Gordonii is the one with the appetite suppressant. All others are a waste of time and money.

In the few studies that have been conducted, no ill side effects were found. Some believe it may cause liver damage, but this has been linked to ingredients in hoodia other than the suppressant. Removing these has been an expensive undertaking, and a British company, Phytopharm, who holds the patent on the suppressant, P57, is working on making the diet supplement more economical to manufacture. It has only been fairly recent that the world has been introduced to this phenomenom, but has been the subject of quite a few media exposes. All major networks have done a cover story on it. It is now widely known around the world and giving green tea and the other diet supplements a run for their money.

It is not without it’s controversy. Due to the lack of studies available, hoodia has come under attack for false claims; not working being the most prevalent. When examined these claims show that the user either did not follow the directions, did not have 100% Hoodia Gordonii, had a product that was made with a lot of fillers, additives or bulk material, thus being less hoodia and in some cases none at all.

All in all, hoodia appears to work, does not cause side effects, may be a bit expensive to purchase, and is the brunt of many imitations. Make sure you only purchase 100% Hoodia Gordonii, it will come with a certificate of authenticity, have a lot number stating the batch it came from, all to ensure you have what you paid for and get the results you want.

Low Cholesterol Menu - A Great Way To Reduce Cholesterol

We all live very busy lives, many of us opt for eating fast food rather than proper meals because it is easier. We do not stop to think of the consequences that our actions lead.

It is, however, worthwhile considering switching to a low cholesterol menu in a bid to maintain proper health.

Fast Foods Are Not A Good Idea When Trying To Lower Cholesterol

It is possible to try and find a low cholesterol menu that has fast foods in it but it will still contain a higher amount of trans fats that will only increase your weight and in the end increase the amount of cholesterol in your body.

You would be better off designing your own low cholesterol menu and this will help you in regards to improving your health. A few ingredients to start off with would be the following:

. Fruit, and pure Fruit juices (Exception to, being avocados). Fruit bars with no added fat nor added nuts appear fine.

. Vegetables and Vegetable juices – steamed, boiled, raw. Can be cooked with a small spray of cooking oil in a pan etc. It’s the fat you add to them that’s the problem.

. Breakfast Cereal products except those with added ingredients for eaxample corn flakes are fine, but with nuts are not fine. Added fruit is fine. Cereal eaten as is or mixed with skim milk or water.

. Baked beans.

. Spaghetti in tomato sauce.

. Pasta.

. Gnocchi (potato or pumpkin).

. Egg noodles,

. White rice. Brown Rice. Barley. Rice cakes or slices

. Bread, Crisp bread, Pita – lebanese, Filo pastry,

. No fat glace or no fat frosting,

. Sauces ( but not tartare ), Light Salad dressing, No fat mayonnaise.

. Spreads: vegemite, promite, marmite, honey, jam, marmalade, fish paste are fine.

. Soups – canned and packet varieties ( but not creamed, nor ones mixed with whole milk ), any that are fat free.

. Plain popcorn (no added fat nor oil), jelly desserts.

. Most non-alcohol beverages and drinks are fine (except those that have milk or ice cream added)

. Non fat milk or skim milk. Low fat soy drinks. Yacult. Non fat or skim yoghurts. 99% fat free cheese.

. Gelati – non milk. Fruit Ice confections – non-milk types.

. Cheddar cheese – for some reason still unknown, does not appear to increase cholestrol, even though it should!

. Egg White.

. Cooking oil spray – 1 second spray – but only because very little oil is used in a 1 second spray. So you still need to watch how much you spray on.

. Biscuits : Plain cracker biscuits, Ginger Nut, Marie – but always check the label to make sure.

. Lollies: Sugar and or gelatine one, like jubes, snakes – but the calorie count is high.

Remember though, that on a low cholesterol diet, you still have to monitor the size – nearly everything has some calories ( kilojoules). These foods can be eaten freely ( but always check food composition to make sure as, some people or companies may have different ingredients in their food)

You need to follow your low cholesterol menu by drinking adequate amounts of water which not only makes you feel full, but also helps to fight off bad cholesterol as well.

You can find places online that will provide recipes for your low cholesterol menu if you have trouble creating your own. When you have made the change you will see a difference in your body, you will find noticeable improvement in your immune system and your body too will feel a lot better.

How Much Cardio Is Needed To Burn Fat?

Posted by: admin | Comments (18)
How Much Cardio Is Needed To Burn Fat?

The goal for anyone who wants to lose fat is to achieve maximum fat burning in the shortest time possible. It is very important to choose or create the right training program that is the most effective. There are a lot of discussions and arguments about what is more effective: long duration and low intensity workouts or high intensity workouts. This can be very confusing for people. A personal trainer in one gym suggests low intensity workouts and if you go to a different gym then a personal trainer there may suggest high intensity workouts.

So how much cardio is needed to burn fat?

As it is with so many other things, both sides have some truth in them. The low intensity aerobic exercise proponents say that this method is more effective in burning body fat because if your heart rate gets out of the target heart rate, you stop burning fat for fuel and start using carbohydrates for fuel. That is why so many experts promote this method.

But the problem with this method is that if your exercise is low in intensity, then you just do not burn enough calories. If you don’t burn enough calories then you will not lose fat. It is better to use more intense exercises in your workouts because they burn more calories. High intensity aerobic exercise can use as much as 65% of the body’s energy needs in the form of carbohydrate. Burning calories is more important than what you use for fuel. The harder you work out the more calories you burn.

But high intensity exercises are only effective if you can maintain it long enough to burn more calories then with low intensity. To burn calories effectively your workout has to last from 25-60 minutes. If you do a very high intensity workout but you it only lasts for 15 minutes then it is not effective. The trick is to find the right tempo. The most effective method to burn calories is a relatively high intensity for 30 minutes or so. The only way to find out what is the most effective zone for you, is to find it out yourself. There is no magic number. Trial and error!

Never to Late to Start a Diet !!!

Posted by: admin | Comments (18)
Never to Late to Start a Diet !!!

Many people make their New Year’s resolution to lose weight. While they start out with good intentions, far too often the weekly drudge of sticking to a diet can wear thin quite quickly and before they know it their good diet intentions have fallen away. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to stick to your diet resolution without giving up before the excess weight goes away.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure that you stick with your weight loss goals is to write a contract with yourself, promising to stick with the resolution that you have made. If you want to lose a specific amount of weight within a certain amount of time, be sure to include this in the contract along with what you specifically plan to do to lose the weight. Post the contract somewhere you’ll be sure to see it everyday.

Setting goals is an excellent way to make sure that you stay on track with your weight loss plans; however, it is important to ensure that your goals are manageable and not too broad in scope. Due to the fact that dieting can become tiresome very quickly, you may find it helpful to energize your diet with a new goal each week. This gives you something to work on, and even look forward to, each week. Examples of small goals you can set for yourself include starting an exercise routine, cutting out sodas, drinking more water, etc.

Small goals are also a great incentive to work your way up to larger goals, an important component of sticking to your diet plans. Rather than saying you plan to lose weight this year, instead make it a point to commit to losing a specific amount of weight within a definite time frame. This helps to ensure that you do not put off your weight loss plans indefinitely.

As with any major change in your life, it’s generally always easier to accomplish your goals when you have the help and support of friends and family. Make a point to inform those close to you that you are dieting and what you hope to accomplish. In addition, it’s always a good idea to let them know exactly what you’re doing to lose weight so they do not unintentionally sabotage your diet plans. The presence of a weight loss buddy who can keep you on track and motivated will significantly decrease the chances that you’ll give up before accomplishing your goals.

Most people function well under a rewards system and losing weight is no different, provided that you ensure your rewards support your diet and do not undermine them. While you may look forward to enjoying an ice cream sundae after reaching a weight loss goal, think of other rewards that you would enjoy and keep your diet intact. Consider rewarding yourself for every milestone you reach, such as every five pounds lost. Positive reward examples include a manicure, massage, new book/CD/DVD, new shirt, etc. Significant weight loss goals, such as 25 pounds or 50 pounds, could warrant a larger reward such as a weekend trip or something else meaningful.

A Dieting Revolution

A Dieting Revolution

The South Beach Diet is a revolutionary way of looking at weight loss. It isn’t low carb or low fat–it’s all about balance and learning to choose good fats and good carbs instead of foods that don’t help your body. This diet was developed by Miami cardiologist Arthur Agaston as a way for heart patients to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off, but it was so successful that soon everyone wanted to try it. During the first two weeks on the South Beach Diet you’ll begin the process of learning to eat in a new way. You’ll eat three balanced meals a day with normal size portions of meat, seafood, vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts. You won’t be hungry and you’ll learn how to ignore cravings and avoid wanting to overeat. You get to have snacks twice a day, drink diet soda, and eat out, but there are a few things you can’t eat in the first two weeks. You can’t have bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, baked goods, candy, ice cream, sugar, or fruit. You also can’t have beer or alcohol. But it’s only for two weeks. After that, you get to add these foods back into your diet in a healthy way. After the first two weeks, the next phase of the South Beach Diet begins. You’ll still eat plenty of lean protein, vegetables, eggs, cheeses, and nuts, but you also get to add in some of your favorite carbohydrates and sugars. You’ll learn the difference between good carbs and bad carbs and learn to balance foods so that you stay full and have plenty of energy! You stick to this phase of the diet until you reach your target weight. Then you can add in even more carbs and sugars while still maintaining your new weight. Once you know how to balance healthy options with not-as-healthy favorites, it’s easy to eat what you love and still keep the weight off.The South Beach Diet is less of a diet and more of a way of life. It teaches you how to eat so that it isn’t such a struggle to be healthy. The foods emphasized are universally considered to be healthy choices rich in vitamins, minerals, omega-3 oils, and good fats. There are even prepackaged South Beach meal options that can be purchased online or in grocery stores, which makes it even easier to stay on track.
