Now that the tooth is decayed you have several options
1. Crown Lengthening and crown; Since there the body (coronal portion)of the tooth is gone. You can have a procedure done to actually remove bone to expose healthy root structure(usually no more than 2mm). this procedure allows the dentist finish a crown on the health tooth structure. This procedure is destructive to bone but is usually chosen by the patient who is not ready to loose a natural tooth.

2. Bridge; You can have the tooth removed and have a bridge placed. This is an option provided that it is not the last tooth in the arch. so there has to be a tooth in the front and the back, to allow the bridge to be placed.

3. You can have tooth removed and have an implant placed. This is by far the most expensive in the short term but has the potential to cost you less in the long-term since implants don't decay. The only risk is of structural failure and bone infection (low with reasonable care). this is a great option. However prices can skyrocket if you need a bone graft. Since you had the root canal a couple of years ago chances are the bone is still pretty good in your case.

4. You can have the tooth removed and have a "flipper" made. The is a plastic partial denture, made to fill the space. This is an option if funds are limited and you need the gap filled for aesthetic purposes.

5. You can have a removable permanent denture made. This is similar to the flipper, but the design is different. It has metal bars and lots of spaced to allow the tissues to breath thus allowing it to be used long-term without harming the gums.

Prices range from $350 for a flipper, to $3500 for implant and crown.

good luck

It depends where you will study it. In some countries, they would require you to finish the 2-year preparatory course for Dentistry or what they call "Predent" where you'll have to take up basic sciences and other subjects like Math, English, Botany, etc. After finishing the preparatory course, you'll be accepted to enter the Dentistry proper which takes about 4 years.

Assuming that you are looking for a undergraduate course.

There is no undergraduate degree for cosmetic dentistry in India. And you can't practice without a degree. A possible way forward would be to get a BDS Degree and then get a PG Diploma in Cosmetic Dentistry.

If you have AP credits your G.E's will go faster. If you do summer and , winter intersession you can do your G.E's in a year. Then a year and 1/2 for your major. After your major you apply to med school which will take 4 years, almost no matter what. So the quickest you can do it in is 6 1/2 years if you are fast, however average is 8 + years.

I've had 11 crowns for restorative purposes but the cosmetic effect is the same as having them done for THAT purpose, and it was about one thousand per crown. A friend is having veneers and crowns specifically for cosmetic purposes only, and he also told me one thousand each. That's a pretty good average for cosmetic work per tooth.

Occasionally at times I had dental insurance they'd cover up to a certain amount per year (most plans cap it at one thousand, others two.) Of course, that includes all the other dental work included over the course of a year, not just crowns. Without insurance I just paid privately. But I must warn you, if you are having it done specifically for cosmetic purposes, they will NOT cover the procedures at all. Mine had to have series of x-rays, photos and dentist's reports for the teeth in question just to prove that my work was necessary, not cosmetic. In fact I had coverage for one tooth declined for that very reason. As for a loan, ask the dentist office. I'm sure they have financing steps they will help you through.

There are many excellent dentists in Mexico. In border towns , some are good, some are not. In border towns they charge more than in the rest of Mexico. Where I live in southern Mexico a post is $100.00 usd and a root canal is $250 usd A crown is $100 to $150 for a molar. A small filling is $25.00 and a large one is $40.00 . These prices are for highly qualified, excellent dentists in th state of Veracruz. Check out the dentist. Get referrals if you can, compare prices…take a good look at the certificates on his wall. Because a lot of people go to border towns for dental work, you need to be selective.

Nursing is not a science degree but rather training for a specific profession. There is absolutely no point in going to nursing school if you plan on being a dentist. It would be a waste of time and money and you would be taking a spot in nursing school away from someone who actually wants to be a nurse.
