Question and Answer
Where can i find cheap dental work in Southern California?
I'm under the age of 18 and my parents have horrible dental insurance. Their dental insurance covers less than 10%. I need to find a place that has rather cheap dental work, but not at a dental school. (I need a lot of work done). Thanks.

Do not hesitate to choose a university dental facility for your dental care. The students' work is checked step by step by supervising dentists. The work is very, very SLOW and methodical, but very THOROUGH and will be your most affordable option.

One option available to you is to go to a dental school. They will perform the procedure on you at little cost to you due to them needing you as a patient to test/qualify a particular student (DDS).
No idea where you live. So you're going to have to find a dental school on your own. Most large universities have dental schools.

Because our greedy health care system is horrible ! While a broken tooth isn't exactly an emergency it is crucial to get immediate dental care to have a chance to save a tooth. If you have to wait two or three days to see your dentist, chances are you'll lose a tooth that probably could have been saved.
It's a sad situation that our health care system is so expensive, so horrible and above not accessible to everyone.
When doctors offices are closed the only other place to get medical attention is via hospital emergency rooms and while some medical issues may not be emergency in nature, where else can you get treatment after hours.

that sounds like a great regimen.
I would add:
*when you brush with a manual toothbrush, use small circular motions at a 45 degree angle
*brush after every meal/snack
*floss at least 1 time/day and wrap the floss in a c-shape around the tooth and floss each side of the tooth. Also go under the gums to remove plaque hidden there. It will reduce the bacteria and the incidence of periodontal disease.
*avoid sodas (acid & sugar), juice (excess sugar and staining) and sugary gums/mints etc.
Ask your hygienist at your next cleaning which areas you had more plaque/tartar buildup so you can focus better on these areas.
Good LucK!

Unfortunately veterans get stuck behnd the 8 ball on this one, and I am so sorry for that. The fees that the VA allows are so low that most dentists can't work with that fee schedule without losing their shirt. The whole VA Dental program s a joke. We have tried in the past to work with some of the vets in our area and the hospitals put you guys on hold forever. Not a very nice way to say thanks for your service. You should speak with your local government representative to see what can be done in your area. Best of luck and well wishes

Assuming no extractions or drilling, for basic vaccinations and dental I pay about $300-$500 a year for my small dog.
Of course, this doesn't include the extra $500 a year in random vet bills or heartworm meds.
