How Do I Choose a Cosmetic Dentist?
By
As with any healthcare professional, when you choose a cosmetic dentist, there are many points to consider. Should you experience complications during any of your cosmetic dentistry procedures, an experienced dentist will be much more adept at handling those situations. A highly trained dentist who has performed countless cosmetic dentistry procedures will have had time to perfect his/her technique and results. Your dentist’s confidence and expertise will make you a more relaxed and trusting patient. There is also an artistic touch to the science of cosmetic dentistry, especially with treatments such as dental veneers and dental bonding. Your dentist’s own artistic touch and personal flair will produce attractive and natural-looking results for you.
The following are some suggestions to help you in your search for a trained, experienced cosmetic dentist in your geographical area.
* Find an LVI-trained dentist as these are some of the most highly specialized dentists in the entire world.
* Carefully look for a dentist that has received accreditation from the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). This is an indication that he/she has received very specialized training in the field of cosmetic dentistry.
* Find a dentist who has made cosmetic dentistry a prominent feature of his practice. Keep in mind that dentists who advertise, “general dentistry” may not be cosmetic dentists.
* After finding a pool of prospective dentists from which to choose, learn about his/her qualification and prior experience by requesting this information. If the dentist has a website, please visit the website to learn more about the areas of specialization.
* Ask if the dentist has patient testimonials on hand and ask to see before and after photos of actual patients.
Highly Trained Dentists
LVI-trained dentists are some of the best in the world. LVI stands for the Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and is the world’s premier post-graduate dental teaching center. At LVI, dentists receive highly specialized training in the areas of cosmetic dentistry and neuromuscular dentistry. LVI was founded in 1995 and helps train dentists to provide the most advanced patient care possible. LVI has trained some of the best, most successful dentists in the world. A visit to an LVI-trained dentist is not a typical dental visit. LVI dentists devote a considerable amount of time to their patients, listening to them describe why they’re there and what results they are looking for from their highly trained dentist. LVI dentists consider it an honor to be your dentist.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) is the largest international dental organization dedicated cosmetic dentistry. The AACD was founded in 1984 and has more than 7600 members in the United States and worldwide. Sixty countries boast dentists with AACD membership. Members of the Academy include cosmetic and reconstructive dentists, researchers, students, hygienists, dental lab technicians, educators, and corporations. AACD members seek out continuing education through lectures, workshops, and publications in order to stay current with the latest advancements in cosmetic dental techniques and technology.
Keep in mind that the most affordable dentist advertising the lowest prices is not necessarily the right dentist for you. Find a cosmetic dentist who has the skill and experience to transform your smile into the beautiful one you’ve dreamed about and one who will enhance your confidence through his artistry and expertise.

Help answer the question
How do you trust dentist when you get different opinions by different dentists?
Does this happen to you? When we went to a dentist, he said you have cavity and also need to go for gum treatment. For second opinion we went to another dentist and says everything is fine. Then after six month this second dentist says you have to go for gum treatment to periodentist, but we didn't and changed dentist again. The new dentist says you have no problem and everything looks good to me. So how we know that you is telling truth? We feel like when you have insurance then the dentist would definitely try to send you to oral surgeon or periodentist like he is getting commision sending patients to them. Also these oral surgeon and periodentist are in the same office as general dentist most of the time.

The first thing you should know is that if it is possible to save some of his natural teeth, especially on the lower arch, you should do it. Most dentists will invite you in to look at a trial fitting before the teeth are made to see how they look and get your approval. If you want the best, you might want to see a periodontist about the gum infection. Prosthodontists are especially useful in difficult cases.

Physical therapy school is anything but easy. It is a competitive entrance with a rigerous course load. It's certainly not med school, but not a walk in the park. Historically, acceptance rates vary between 20-50% of qualified applicants. This means that sometimes only 20% of those who meet the programs requirements are actually admitted.

Reconstructive dentist usually works with complex cases, such as repairing the jaws and such after an automobile accident, or in the case that someone is deformed, etc., so a cosmetic dentist is one who specializes in making smiles look great (most movie stars go to a cosmetic dentist to get their "perfect" teeth).
For veneers, this would be the dentist to see, be careful though, insurance doesn't usually cover dental procedures done just to look nice !
