How To Conquer Weight Loss Plateaus With Diets That Actually Work
ByEarlier this year I was asked by my personal training clients to find some diets that actually work. I tried to explain to them that almost all diets work, especially if your sole goal is just to lose weight. The problem with many diets that don’t “work” is dieters encounter periods of time when they are following the diet and not losing weight. My research uncovered the fact that diets that work have built in features to help conquer these weight loss plateaus.
Adequate consumption of water is critical in most diets to conquer plateaus. In fact, many diets that actually work, require 8 full glasses of water a day. Logic might tell you that consuming that much water might lead to water weight gain, but in reality the opposite is true.
Drinking water throughout the day “primes” the kidneys to continually eliminate fluids. Very similar, actually, to priming a pump. Most plateaus that occur during weight loss programs are as a result of fluid retention. Drinking large quantities of water helps to prevent fluid retention.
It can also be helpful to limit sodium intake, if you want your body to readily release fluids. Try a salt substitute instead.
Many of the diets that actually work had incorporated natural diuretics to help conquer weight loss plateaus. Diuretics help stimulate the kidneys, and are frequently prescribed by physicians for individuals who retain water. Natural diuretics such as warm lemon juice, or herbal teas can be effective at preventing plateaus.
Exercise was encouraged in the diets that actually work. Regular, brisk walking, can be a terrific boost to metabolism and it can also increase caloric expenditure. Try to gradually increase the distance and speed of your walks.
Why I decided to do research on diets that actually work.
Question and Answer
DiET??????
What are some foods that would work well with a really low carb diet? Because I've started the diet today and the only really low carb things I can find are bacon, eggs, progresso, and crystal light. Thanks for the help!!!

I'm not sure how many calories you should have daily, but I do know the list of good foods to eat because I have just recently started a healthy diet for myself.
for breakfast you want to have some type of fruit. have this when you wake up and wait a while to eat the rest of your breakfast which should be high fiber cereal, whole wheat toast, etc.
For lunch you should have whole wheat bread with low fat meat, lettuce, tomatoes, and LITE mayonnaise or honey mustard.
either that or a well balanced salad.
my favorite for dinner is whole wheat pasta with a side salad.
snack can be basically anything under 100 calories..
also, if you drink a lot of milk, switching to nonfat actually does a lot of good.
stay clear from white bread. whole wheat everything, if you can!
hope this helps!

Congratulations on your husband coming home, God Bless him for serving his country. My husband just came back in May and though he was injured, it was the happiest day of my life to see him alive!

That may very well be. But the title is wrong, and the vegans are a little too eager to use his achievements to their own gain. And they are wrong for doing so, borderline dishonest.

It’s not wrong for vegans to use vegan accomplishments to make their point that vegan athletes can succeed

Not much… Atkins is good if you can commit to sticking with it. Also I had some success with Weight Watchers.

You can run a search here on YouTube for “Running Raw Carl Lewis Interview” and it should come up as the first option. He doesn’t appear until later in the video and it’s difficult to hear, but he makes his history with veganism pretty clear.

You may want to try Acai, it's healthy product. Dedication and intelligence needed to solve problems of losing weight. If you are really looking to lose weight, Acai diet pills probably isn't enough just by itself.
It's a very healthy food, high in vitamins and anti-oxidants, but those won't really result in weight loss.
I suggest doing what this mom did and combining the Acai diet with a cleansing program.

Why would you want to severely limit carbohydrates? They are your body's primary fuel. If you are trying to lose weight, limiting total calories is much more sensible and effective.

He won NO Olympic gold medals through a vegan diet, they were all won before he became a vegan in 1990.

That sounds good. Make sure you feed him plenty of fruits and veggies so he continues to get his nutrition. Limit carbs to once a day in the morning, and not after 3PM. Don't serve dinner fast 7PM, either. Cut down on all unhealthy things. Then make sure he exercises an hour a day, running/jogging on the treadmill. He'll lose weight in no time.
You could also talk to his doctor to make sure it;s working.

I have recently lost 6 pounds in a week, which wasnt actually as hard as i thought it was going to be.
For breakfast i ate a bowl of special k with semi skimmed milk, with chopped up fruit,
for lunch a bowl of soup or a salad (fish is best as its low in fat)
and for dinner, i had a low fat meal, 'be good to yourself' from sainsburys or weight watchers and it tells you how many calories are in each meal.
snack on things like fruit and salad, if youre a crisp fan, try low cal crisps like french fries which only contain 89 kcal in each pack, or monster munch or snack a jacks.
i think i cut down to 700/800 calories a day, a did some regular exercise, jogging etc.
I also stopped eating after 6.00-7.00, which helped my metabolism so i lost weight faster, and cut out all drinks and just drank water and diet coke/pepsi (1kcal) as you dont realise how many calories are in drinks!
after the week, i am now being more lenient with myself, and i have been consuming about 800/900 calories.
Hope this helps!

valid point but in his showdown with Powell he shattered his “non-vegan” record and if Powell wasn’t there he’d be the world record holder

Don’t know why my 1st comment didn’t appear but I made a point about seeing this video posted by many vegans. It is referring to him being vegan, which was only for 2 yrs of his life from age 29-31. The man is going to be 49 in July! 2 yrs vegan during 1 Olympic meet is hardly substantial to make claims about performance. His best performance in the jump came in ‘96 Olympics 4 yrs after giving up veganism. I’ve yet to see this info shared! That’s why u should watch interview I suggested! Thanks
