It sounds like an expression of anxiety over your friend. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you.

My dad has been dead 29 years and I still have dreams that he is alive. They remind me that I both hated and loved him.

It would be most helpful if you could tell us of what there is too much of in your blood. Have they given you a brain scan to determine or rule out the possible brain cancer?

The immune system maintains its own system of circulation — the lymphatic vessels–which permeates every organ in the body except the brain. I've seen this many many times as a cancer specialist doctor in the U.S..
The radiation therapy will not cause her brain to swell.
The radiation will not cause seizures.
But it will not cure her either.
If her brain swells or she has seizures, it will be from the malignancy.
From what you describe, her time is probably very limited – weeks to a few months – but no doctor knows exactly how much time anyone really has.
The enemy is not the cranial radiation here. The enemy is the lung cancer. From the history you provide, I must assume it is a non-small cell carcinoma which doesn't respond well to chemotherapy. If this is the case, the result will not be good no matter what you do.
I saw several hundred people with non-small cell lung cancer and many had metastatic disease to the brain. None of these did well for long.
The doctors are trying to buy her a little more time – that's all.
I wish it were otherwise, but that's the situation if this is a non-small cell lung cancer spread to the brain.

my husband has also been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and was told he might have only 6 to 9 months to live. it`s been one year now since his diagnoses and he is still playing tennis every day! his cancer spread from one lung to the other and primary tumor is 6,5cm. two chemotherapys failed he is now on a drug call Tarceva which seems to keep cancer from getting worse. one thing i have to tell you is at the beginning of the diagnoses he was feeling much worse than he does a year on. since then he cut out all sugar(cancer feeds on sugar), all dairy products drinks carrot and apples juice every day, drinks green tea, eats lots of vegetables(especially cabbage and brocolie which really benefits lung cancer), exersises every day even if its just 15 min(tumors don`t like oxygen). doctors are telling him he must be doing something right as he is in best condition for stage four cancer patient they have ever seen. another very important thing is to be positive. it has been proven that people who are positive live much longer. the best treatment for lung cancer is Tarceva it works even better for women then men but its not easy to get it on NHS.
